MATHS: My Cuisenaire rods

Cuisenaire rods are mathematics learning aids for students that provide a hands-on elementary school way to explore mathematics and learn mathematical concepts, such as the four basic arithmetical operations, working with fractions and finding divisors.

MATHS: Patterning ideas

Kindergartners love patterns. Or should I say "pat-ter-ens." They're super fun! But what they don't know is that they are an essential building block in their understanding about numbers. What starts out in kindergarten as making pretty designs with pattern blocks eventually leads to skip counting, repeated addition (and therefore multiplication and division), algebraic reasoning, and beyond! So it's important that we provide them with a solid foundation.

Here's a series of color pattern cards where students use manipulatives (pom-poms, color tiles, bear counters, Unifix cubes, etc.) to make, extend, or fill-in the pattern pictured.

I don't have a pencil MISS LAURA!!!

Sound familiar?  I think I've probably gone through about 2 boxes of pencils this year!  I think I've finally come up with a solution for keeping track of them while teaching responsibility at the same time!
Management of my new pencil system is simple.  Students pick up their pencil in the morning (each student has their own student number which corresponds to the numbers I put on the pencils, and the colors correspond to each student´s desks).  They are responsible for keeping their pencil in a safe place all day.  We had a conversation about where a good place to keep them would be.  At the end of the day, students must put their pencil back. So far so good!

Banner Classroom Decor!!

This fun Project is super simple. You can create a banner with the teacher's name, room's number, group's name or even the name of a subject.
